Aneurysm is a condition of blood vessels in which there is abnormally bulging of major blood vessels which can sometimes rupture in the body leading to the death of person.

Types

The development of aneurysm can occur anywhere in the body for example;

• Aortic aneurysm
• Abdominal aortic aneurysm
• Thoracic aneurysm
• Peripheral aneurysm
• Brain aneurysm

Symptoms

The general symptoms of aneurysm are;

• Abdominal aneurysm causes sudden intense back pain and pulsation in the stomach.
• Thoracic aneurysm causes, sudden chest pain which feels like heart attack, difficulty in breathing and swallowing and pain in upper back.
• Fever, nausea, blood vessel inflammation and unintended weight loss are general symptoms.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis of aneurysm is based on screening tests like;

• Ultrasound
• CT scan
• MRI

Treatment

Treatment depends on the size and location of aneurysm
