It is a mental illness in which a person does not like his/her appearance or any specific thing in her/his own body. This is only the person’s own perception to see negativity in her own body due to this disorder such persons avoid social gatherings and meet-ups.

The exact cause of this disorder is still not known. But like other mental illnesses, it may b assumed that body isomorphic disorder is also a multifactorial disorder that occurs due to the impact of many factors like environmental, emotional, and genetic.

Your doctor may take a deep history of your personal social and work life to rule out the other mental disorders. He or she may recommend the blood test and lumbar puncture to check the complete blood count and any changes in the brain biochemistry respectively.
