It is defined as the obesity and attain over weight during childhood and adolescent period. It may cause the different problem to the child like diabetes mellitus type 1 and tendency to developed high blood pressure at early age. It can also lead to the low self-confidence and guilty and ashamed behavior in children.

Symptoms

Every child who has extra weight or kgs does not mean they have obesity some children have large bony frame due to which they look bigger than age. Fat quantity changes during development of child, little children have more fat then teenagers. BMI can better tell us about obesity and normal body weight by measuring height and weight and put in a BMI formula to calculate the body mass index.

Causes

Lifestyle of a child define the early obesity or malnutrition in the children. Junk food and high calories food during early development play a huge role in the childhood obesity. Sometime genetic and hormonal factors also involved in this matter.

Diagnosis

Your doctor after taking the medical history, calculate the BMI of child and check if BMI between 85th and 94th percentile then child is overweight and if BMI is 95th percentile then there is confirm obesity in child. Your doctor might recommend the following test to rule out the other conditions includes:

  • Blood test
  • Cholesterol test
  • Blood sugar test
  • Hormonal test to check any hormonal imbalance
Treatment

Treatment option depend upon the child age and severity of obesity, treatment options include:

  • Eat more vegetables and fruits
  • Avoid junk food
  • Avoid sweet drinks
  • Limit portion sizes
  • Eat with family
  • Take your meal when go to work or school
  • Avoid soft drinks
  • Walk daily
  • Help in house cores
  • Avoid sedentary life style
