Conjunctivitis, Pink eye
Conjunctivitis is a common eye inflammation or infection that leads to redness, itching, watering, discharge. Conjunctiva during this inflammation starts to appear red.
Causes
Conjunctivitis can be due to
- Allergies
- Virus
- Bactaria
- or trauma to the eye
Sypmtoms
Viral Conjunctivitis: eye appear red, itchy and sensitive to light accompanied by sneezing, flu, cough, most of the cases both eyes are involved.
Bacterial Conjunctivitis: also called glued eye, appears red, mild pain, swelling and when you wake up in the morning eyelids are struck. More often one eye is effected
Allergic Conjunctivitis : eye in allergic conjunctivitis is itchy, burning, tearing, runny nose
Treatment:
- Most viral eye infection run for the period of 5-7 days and recover without treatment
- Bacterial Conjunctivitis need antibiotic ointment or drops
Allergic conjunctivitis can be treated with steroid eye drops or antillergic medication for few days
