Symptoms

- Severe pain
- Swelling at hip joint
- Bruising
- Difficulty in walking
- Inability to stand with that leg
Causes
Vehicles accidents are the main causes of hip fracture. Older people are more prone to this type of fracture. Osteoporosis is the major cause of hip fracture in the old women.
Complications
If left untreated it may cause the following complications:
- Pneumonia
- Urinary tract infection
- Loss of muscle
- Bedsores
- Blood clot in your legs or lungs
Diagnosis
After medical history and conducting a physical examination your doctor might recommend the following tests:
- Blood test to check the complete blood count.
- X-ray and CT scan to check the detailed image of the fracture site.
Treatment
Treatment options usually include the surgery and physical therapy.
Surgical procedure includes total hip replacement, partial hip replacement, and using rods and screw to repair the bone.
Physical therapy help to reduce the stiffness and movement limitation.
