Hives and Angioedema

This is a particular skin condition that causes itchy lesions on the skin when person come in contact with some triggering stimuli. Hives are also known as urticaria.angioedema is a condition characterized by swelling of skin in deeper layers.hives and angioedema commonly occur simultaneously.

Symptoms

Sign and symptoms related to hives are;Anaphylaxis,HIVES SYMPTOMS CAUSES TREATMENT

  • Reddish lesion
  • Shape of lesions are rounded or worm type.
  • Variation in size from pea size to dinner plate size.
  • Mild to severe itching.

Signs related to angioedema are;

  • Acute formation of lesions from minutes to hours.
  • Eyes,cheeks and lips are swollen and red
  • Severe pain and warmth on affected area.
Causes

Main causes of hives and angioedema are;

  • Sensitivity to different foods which can trigger hypersensitivity reactions.
  • Side effects of some medication like aspirin, ibuprofen or hypertensive medication.
  • Allergens present in the air.
  • Hives can also results after blood transfusion or infection of HIV.

Hives and angioedema can cause severe life-threatening condition if swelling of airway occurs.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis require details medical history of patient and complete general physical examination. Other teats like skin prick test ,blood test can rule out possible cause behind this condition.

Treatment

Usually hives and angioedema are self limiting and doesn’t require treatment.However, in some cases it may require some intervention like;

  • Anti-itch or anti -inflammatory medication.
  • Medication that suppress immunity.
  • Epinephrine injection when serious complication occur.
Home Remedies
  • Avoid the substances to which you are allergic.
  • Use anti-itch medication which are available over the counter.
  • If you experience intense itch apply cold cloth over the area.
  • To avoid further infection wear cotton lose cloths.
  • Manage to keep yourself out of sun and wear sun screen whenever you go out.
