Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome
It is the hereditary disorder which involved the development of blood vessels, lymphatic system, and soft tissues. It is also called KTS.
Symptoms
People with this disorder have following signs and symptoms:
- Malformation of veins
- Port wine stain on skin
- Lymphatic system abnormalities
- Overgrowth of bones and soft tissue
- Cataracts
- Lip malformation
Causes
It is a genetic condition in which there is a mutation in PIK3CA gene occurred due to which uncontrolled development of tissues occur in the body.
Diagnosis
After taking history and physical examination your doctor might recommend the following tests:
- CT scan to check the images of body
- Doppler ultrasound
- Scanogram to measure the length of bones
- Contrast venography to check the condition of abnormal veins
Treatment
There is no any specific treatment option for klippel-Trenaunay syndrome. Although there is supportive treatment option present to reduce the signs and symptoms:
- Physical therapy to help in movement and prevent edema.
- Compression therapy
- Embolization to block blood flow in abnormal blood vessels
- Orthopedic shoes for difference in leg length
- Laser therapy to treat port wine stain
