Mesenteric Ischemia
It is occurred due to the decrease blood flow to your small intestine, mesenteric ischemia occurred due to the narrowing or blocked arteries of your intestine. It can damage the intestine permanently.
Symptoms
Signs and symptoms of the mesenteric ischemia includes:
- Fever
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Pain after eating
Causes
It is cause by the blockage of mesenteric arteries due to the clot formation. Most commonly clot originate from the heart which obstruct the arteries which supply the blood to the small intestine.
Complications
If not treated early it may lead to the following complications:
- Necrosis of bowel
- Sepsis
- Death due to the above mentioned complications
Diagnosis
Diagnostic tests include:
- Doppler ultrasound to check the blood flow with the help of sound waves.
- Angiography to check the obstruction in the arteries by injecting dye in the blood.
Treatment
If acute attack of ischemia occurs than immediate treatment required to treat the ischemia. Stent mi Stent might requried to placed in the obstructed artery it can be done through open surgery.
