It is defined as the sudden and spontaneous loss of pregnancy before 20th week. It is generally a common condition which occur in about 10 to 20 percent of known pregnancies. Sometime it occur in early weeks when woman doesn’t know about pregnancy.
Symptoms
Signs and symptoms include:
- Vaginal discharge
- Vaginal bleeding
- Cramping
- Pain in lower abdomen
Causes
Mostly miscarriages developed due to the chromosomal abnormalities or mutation in the certain genes during intrauterine life. Following are the causes of miscarriage:
- Blighted ovum occurs when there are no embryo forms.
- Intrauterine growth restriction of embryo.
- Molar and partial molar pregnancy
- Maternal infection
- Uncontrolled diabetes
Complications
Following complications occur:
- Fever
- Chills
- Abdominal tenderness
- Vaginal discharge
Diagnosis
After taking history your doctor might recommend the following tests:
- Blood tests to check the HCG level in your blood
- Ultrasound
- Pelvic examination
- Tissue tests
- Genetic testing to check the chromosomal abnormalities
Treatment
Before any treatment your doctor recommended the rest until the bleeding or pain reduce. Then with the help of ultrasound check the fetus condition is she/he alive or not then treatment further proceed, treatment option includes:
- If you don’t have any infections then expulsion happens on its own without any surgical treatment.
- Medical treatment if labor not induce on its own by giving certain medications.
- Surgical treatment include D&C procedure to remove the dead fetus.
