It is defined as the tumor growths around the nerves or nerves tissues. Peripheral nerve conveys the brain message to the periphery of the body. Mostly are benign growth but some may be malignant.

Causes

The exact cause of tumor is still unknown. But some inherited conditions associated with this condition like neurofibromatosis type 1 and 2.

  • Numbness
  • Weakness
Diagnosis

After checking medical history and conducting motor examination your doctor will recommend the following tests:

  • Electromyography to record brain electrical activity.
  • Nerve conduction study
  • Tumor biopsy to check the extend of disease
Treatment

Treatment depend upon the severity of signs and symptoms, treatment options include:

  • Watchful monitoring to check the condition of tumor
  • Surgery to remove the tumor growth
  • Chemotherapy to kill the tumor cells
  • Radiotherapy also helpful in some condition
