It is defined as the small warts which grown on your feet usually on the heel and the area where pressure is maximized. Plantar warts are small growth which sometime grow inside the thick layer of skin which is called callus. It is cause by viral infection.

Causes

The cause of this condition is the viral infection. The most common viral which is involved in the development of plantar warts is Human papillomavirus. The strain of HPV which causes plantar warts are not highly contagious. Children and old people are more prone to get this infection.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis of plantar warts can be done by the following procedure:

  • Detailed examination of the lesion
  • Check the size and thickness of wart
  • Check blood vessels
  • Remove the small section of wart for biopsy
Treatment

This is usually the harmless condition and resolve on its own but painful warts may require treatment which include:

  • Cryotherapy to remove the wart
  • Salicylic acid to remove the wart layer by layer
  • Surgical removal of wart
  • Laser treatment
  • Vaccine to prevent the infection
