Pyloric Stenosis

The obstruction in end portion of stomach which is called pyloric end of stomach. It is an uncommon condition which affects the infant just after birth and symptoms appear after one to two days after birth.

Symptoms

Signs and symptoms of pyloric stenosis include:

Stomach contractions
Failure to thrive
Projectile vomiting
Dehydration due to nutritional deficiency
Weight gaining problem
Change in bowel movement

Causes

The exact cause of this condition is still unknown. But it may assume that there are many factors which play the role like environmental and genetic factors. Premature birth also plays the key role in pyloric stenosis.

Diagnosis

After taking history and conducting physical examination your doctor recommends the following tests:

X-ray of abdomen
Blood test to rule out the infection and sepsis
Ultrasound of abdomen

Treatment

There is no any medicine to treat the pyloric stenosis only surgical procedure cure this condition. Pyloromyotomy is a surgical procedure to treat the pyloric stenosis through laproscope.
