Shin Splints
The condition in which pain occur in tibia which is the long bone of the leg, situated on front of the lower leg. It is the common condition in athletes, dancers, and runners.
Symptoms
Signs and symptoms of shin splints include:
- Soreness
- Pain in leg
- Tenderness
- Swelling
- Redness
Causes
The main cause of shin splints is the stress on tibia (shinbone) and their associated structure like muscles and connective tissue which is attach with the bone.
Diagnosis
After taking history and performing physical examination your doctor might recommend the x-ray to check the extent of stress and rule out the fracture.
Treatment
Treatment options include:
- Take pain reliever
- Icing will reduce the swelling
- Rest and avoid activities
