The cancer of soft palate which is located on the roof of the mouth on back posterior side behind teeth. It is associated with throat cancer usually. Soft palate cancer is treated in usual manner like other cancers.
Symptoms
signs and symptoms of soft palate cancer include:
- White patches in mouth
- Swelling in neck
- Ear pain
- Weight loss
- Loose teeth
- Sores in your mouth
- Bad breath
- Difficulty in speech
- Difficulty in speaking
- Bleeding
Causes
The exact cause of soft palate cancer is still unknown but it may assume that cancer arises from the mutation in the DNA which cause the abnormal growth of the cells. Abnormal cells are unable to perform their normal functions.
Diagnosis
After taking history and conducting physical examination your doctor might recommend the following test:
- Tissue biopsy to check the stage of cancer
- Imaging test like X-ray CT (Computerized Tomography) scan and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) to check the extend of disease
- Blood test to check the complete blood count
Treatment
Treatment options for soft palate cancer include:
- Chemotherapy to kill the cancer cells by chemotherapeutic drugs
- Surgical removal of the involved organ or tissue
- Radiotherapy to kill cancer cells by radiation
- Medicine to suppress growth of tumor
- Palliative care
