Spermatocele
The condition in which there is sac like pouch developed in the epididymis. It is benign condition and usually painless, sac is filled with clear or milky fluid. Epididymis is the coiled tube located on just above the testicles, store and transport the sperm.
Symptoms
Signs and symptoms include:
- Fullness above and behind the testis
- Pain
- Swelling on affected testis
- Heaviness in the sac
Causes
The exact cause of this condition in still unknown but it may be assumed that it occurred due to any obstruction within the coiled tube of epididymis and there is blockage in sperm transportation.
Diagnosis
After taking history and conducting physical examination your doctor might recommend the following test:
- Blood test to exclude any infectious cause
- Ultrasound to check the extend of sac formation
- Transillumination to check either there is fluid or solid mass in testis
Treatment
Treatment options include:
- Aspiration of fluid from the sac
- Surgical removal of spermatocele from the epididymis
- Sclerotherapy to reduce the size of spermatocele by injecting the irritating chemical to induce the scar formation
